Background
An illustration from Roualt's La Passion, published in 1939 with eighty-two wood engravings and seventeen colour etchings. This scene is from the section in the text entitled 'Chemineau et Paysans' ('Vagrant and Peasants'). La Passion is one of the great artist's books of the twentieth century.
