From the swimming-pool, return across the foot of the house down the stairway that leads down to the Four Seasons Walled Garden, or alternatively, go through the pillars to Parents' Walk, which leads to the Walled Garden (and tea room) - without steps.
Parents’ Walk enters the Walled Garden through double borders planted in 1986 by Peter Coats, with the object of giving year-round foliage colour. Catalpa bignonioides 'Aurea' supplies strikingly golden foliage and is complemented by purple berberis, golden-leaved philadelphus and yellow-flowered Phlomis fruticosa. Among the perennials, Euphorbia characias ‘Wulfenii’ contributes its bold lime-green flowers, a theme picked up by frothy Alchemilla mollis later in the season.
