Access for visitors with disabilities
Information for visitors with mobility impairments
House
There are 14 steps to the Entrance Hall with a handrail (ambulant visitors may need help).
Regrettably, the house is unsuitable for wheeled vehicle access.
Seats are available in some rooms. Please ask our room stewards for assistance.
There are 31 steps to the first floor with a handrail. A photographic guide to the first floor rooms is available for visitors who are unable to use the stairs. Please ask at the welcome desk in the Entrance Hall.
Garden
The garden is accessible to visitors who use manual wheelchairs and electric scooters.
Some areas of the gardens have steps and steep paths. Our printed map of the gardens shows accessible routes. You can pick up a free copy at the ticket office.
Due to distances, some visitors may prefer to visit the gardens using a powered mobility vehicle (PMV) or wheelchair. Four PMVs and one wheelchair are available for visitors to use free of charge. Please book in advance with the Estate Office (Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm), and collect from the ticket office. If you have not booked in advance, please ask about availability in the ticket office when you arrive.
Paths can be muddy in wet weather, particularly in the Water Garden.
Ticket office and tea room
The ticket office is fully accessible. The tea room is accessible to wheelchairs via a ramp to the rear of the ticket office.
There are designated parking bays in the main car park. Special arrangements can be made at the ticket office for parking in front of the main house.
The toilets are in the stables building close to the ticket office and car park. Accessible toilets are available.
Information for visitors with hearing impairments
There are induction loops in the ticket office and tea room.
Information for visitors with visual impairments
Large print guides are available in each room of the house.
